Providing Education, Support & Inspiration

for the Journey

"When Down Syndrome

and Autism Intersect, A

Guide to DS-ASD for

Parents and

Professionals"

by Froehlke and Zaborek

(Woodbine House, 2012)

When Down Syndrome and

Autism Intersect offers a thorough

examination of the unique profile

of a Down Syndrome-Autism Spectrum Disorder (DS-ASD) diagnosis and best practices for screening, treatment, and caretaking through the lifespan. This one-stop resource, the first of its kind, will greatly benefit families whose child is already diagnosed, and also those who suspect something more than Down syndrome. Professionals, too, will find information on how to distinguish DS-ASD from a diagnosis of just Down syndrome, and guidance on providing services for children and adults.

LOOKING FOR RESOURCES FOR AN AUTISM EVALUATION FOR YOUR LOVED ONE/CLIENT/STUDENT WITH DOWN SYNDROME?
When seeking an evaluation, be sure to ask if the provider has experience with evaluating autism in a person/child with Down syndrome...

[Disclaimer: It is our pleasure to provide information and resources, however the Down Syndrome-Autism Connection does not make recommendations for medical care, therapies, interventions or other services.  We strongly urge you to do the research necessary to make the most appropriate decisions for your child, loved one, patient or client.]

Programs

Our mission is to provide education and support to individuals facing the unique challenges caused by co-occurring Down syndrome and autism.

We achieve our mission by providing the following programs and services to people all over the USA and around the world.  We are gathering a global community around our loved ones with DS-ASD.  Please join us!

Annual Convention with the National Down Syndrome Congress

The Down Syndrome-Autism Connection has been partnering with the National Down Syndrome Congress by offering a track of sessions on the topic of co-occurring Down syndrome and autism for six years running.  Previous to our partnership, the Connection offered its own conferences in the Denver area.  Our collaboration has been a beautiful win-win, with hundreds of more families and professionals accessing the information and support that they need.

We wish to express our gratitude to the NDSC for another wildly successful collaboration at their 44th Annual Convention in Orlando in 2016.  All of our 2015 workshops were received with a great deal of enthusiasm and a strong feeling of "community".  We are so grateful for the opportunity to provide support and education to hundreds of family members and professionals regarding DS-ASD issues.

(If you would like us to bring our DS-ASD 101 workshop to your area, contact us and let's see if we can make it work!)

Local and Long Distance Support
We believe in building a supportive community for all people affected by co-occurring Down syndrome and autism (DS-ASD).  We provide local support through our programs located in the Denver Metro Area, and we provide long distance support through phone calls, email, and our annual conference.

Information & Referral
Our Information & Referral team is dedicated to finding resources for you and your family member.  We are also developing a national database of resources as we move forward.  Any resources that you would like to supply to us would be greatly appreciated.  Also, we are currently in need of funding to underwrite this project.  Contact us if you're interested in helping us out!

FREE Online Support Group and Monthly Online Chats
You are invited to join our worldwide community on our Closed Facebook Support Group as well as by participating in monthly online chats. This is where you may ask more personal questions and provide your experiences to others looking for support and resources from our caring DS-ASD community.  Post photos and videos, and share the journey!  Contact us for information about joining.
