A Message from Our Board President:
Charlotte Gray and I are back from a three-day whirlwind trip to Washington, DC. There, we were busy advocating for our families at the Annual Buddy Walk in Washington. We met with representatives on both the house and senate sides. We were able bring your concerns about the future of Medicaid, healthcare, research, the ABLE Act, education, respite and most importantly, life choices for your loved ones with DS-ASD. The support we received was overwhelmingly positive. We shared your stories and concerns and they were heard!
While there, we also had the opportunity to meet with Senior Policy Advisor & Counsel, Stuart Spielman with Autism Speaks about future collaborations for our community. He arranged for Charlotte and I to attend the reveal of the new puppet on Sesame Workshop. Julia, a 4-year old with ASD was introduced and we attended their panel discussion lead by Holly Robinson Peete. So exciting! We are grateful to all at Sesame Workshop for spreading awareness and inclusion for all our friends with ASD.
We also were able to meet with Rose Jochum, Director of Internal Initiatives, at the Autism Society. We discussed ideas about future collaborations which include linking our website to their home page. She also extended an invitation for the Connection to attend their annual conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Overall, we are so grateful and privileged to represent you and your families. Please know Washington, DC has heard your voices!
